Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 3, 2026

Unclickbait is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and other browsers that replaces YouTube's thumbnails with frames from the videos themselves. This policy covers the extension and this website. Questions go to support@unclickbait.app.

The extension

In short: Unclickbait collects no personal data. Nothing it reads or keeps leaves your device.

Where it runs

The extension runs only on YouTube (youtube.com and its subdomains, such as www.youtube.com and m.youtube.com), and on YouTube's image server, i.ytimg.com. It doesn't run on any other site.

What it does there

When a YouTube page loads a video's thumbnail, the extension's browser rules have the browser load one of the frames YouTube already keeps of that video instead, from the same YouTube server. Where YouTube has no frame (for a live stream, say), the extension puts the original thumbnail back. The browser handles these requests as it would any image on the page: the extension doesn't read, record or send your browsing history, the videos you see or watch, or anything else on the page.

What it keeps

The extension stores only these things, in your browser's own extension storage, on your device:

  • whether you've turned it on or off in its popup;
  • the last day it was used, and how many times, so it can ask you for a review in the store at most a few times;
  • the extension's version, so it can tell you once about what's new after an update.

Uninstalling the extension deletes them.

What it sends

Nothing. The extension has no account or sign-in, no analytics or tracking, no ads and no servers of its own. It sends no data to us or anyone else. The only requests it causes are the frame images it loads from YouTube in place of the thumbnails, which YouTube receives as it would its own images, under Google's privacy policy.

Selling and sharing

We don't sell, rent, share or transfer any user data, since the extension collects none. Unclickbait's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

This website

This website has no accounts and sets no cookies for tracking or advertising. It counts page views with onedollarstats, a cookieless analytics service that records which pages are visited and where visitors came from, without identifying them. Like most websites, its hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for a short time to run and secure the site.

Children

Unclickbait isn't directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date above. Since the extension collects no data, a change will never apply to data collected before it.
